The reason most ophthalmologists don’t wear orthokeratology lenses is because they don’t have the money to pay for them.
Orthokeratology lenses are now an item that can be bought for around $100 which is a bit more expensive than most eyeglass frames, but still quite affordable. This is because the material used to make the lenses is fairly cheap. These cheap lenses must be replaced every six months and most ophthalmologists opt for the “ultra” expensive lenses that cost around $2000 for the right ones (which is more than the cost of most glasses).
The price of orthokeratology lenses also varies between the different brands due to the different materials used to make them. The most expensive orthokeratology lenses can be bought for between 300 and 500.
Some of that might be due to the fact that most ophthalmologists tend to use cheap lenses due to the lack of research and innovation in the field. Others might just be a product of the fact that people tend to have trouble with expensive glasses. Orthokeratology lenses are also pretty common in eyeglasses. For the rest of us, they are a bit much. As you know, I don’t own one.
In 2011 Dr. Robert Miller, a Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Iowa, received a patent for orthokeratology lenses. One of the inventors, Dr. David L. Hensch, is currently leading the field of orthokeratology research. One of the claims in the patent was that the lenses have the potential to reduce the number of myopia-induced cataracts by up to 90%.
The patent covers a number of different types of lenses. The common lens is an ophthalmic lens, which looks like a regular old pair of glasses. The other lenses are called “orthokeratology lenses” because they are made to be worn by people with myopia, which is often a result of insufficient light reaching the eye.
The lens in this patent is called a trifocal lens, because it can change the shape of the eye, so that it doesn’t always look like a traditional pair of glasses. You still have to wear your glasses, but your vision is corrected to a certain degree.

I wear my glasses because I wear them. The only thing that changed last winter was the lenses, which I had to buy because I had to wear glasses with more prescription.
