There are a ton of reasons why you should have a dedicated IP address for your email. A dedicated IP address is required for any email hosted by your ISP or other service provider in order for them to be able to recognize your email. If you aren’t using a dedicated IP address, you are probably not taking care to make sure your email is hosted by your ISP.
You should have a dedicated IP address if you have multiple services, whether you use them to send email or just to access your computer. If you have only one email address, you should definitely have a dedicated IP address. If you do, your Internet service provider will be able to send your email to your email address.
Shared IP addresses are a really crappy solution to the problem of keeping your email from being hosted by your ISP. They mean that your email address will no longer be a DNS server, but instead will remain your ISP’s address. It’s great for getting your email to people who are not on the same network as you, but it really doesn’t make much sense in the long run.
Shared IP addresses are a huge problem. If your internet service provider keeps your IP address as an address for a domain you use on the internet that is on their address list, then their ISP can see that you have a mail server on your network. That means that they know that you are using your webmail, and that’s bad.
Most ISPs use shared IP addresses because they need to be able to connect to your internet service provider and have the internet working. This is also true for VoIP providers who need to be able to connect to your phone company. Your internet service provider should never have to know you have a mail server on your network, and so they should never be able to be your ISP.
For this reason, most dedicated IP addresses are used over shared IP addresses. Shared IP addresses are used by other people, usually at the same place, and so they need to be able to access your mail server. This is a bad thing, and can lead to trouble if you have a lot of mail servers you need to access at the same time or when you are out and about.
This is true because a shared IP address is an IP address that the ISP will give you as your internet service provider, and mail servers are supposed to be on shared IP addresses, so they are bound to each other. But since dedicated IP addresses are shared IP addresses, and they can be used by other people at the same place, the ISP has to know that there are mail servers on the network.
So if you are in a business where you have a lot of mail servers, it is important to know which ones are on your dedicated IP and which ones are shared. You can use the shared IP addresses for the mail servers that are on your network, and use the dedicated IP addresses for the ones that are not on your network.
What is the problem, though? It’s simply a matter of convenience. Shared IP addresses are far easier to look up on a map than dedicated IP addresses. If you’re in a business where you have both types of IP addresses, you might just go for the shared IP address. If you have both, it’s just a matter of picking the one that’s more convenient.
I hate to break it to you, but there are actually two types of IP addresses in the world. There is the address you get when you connect to the Internet and it is the one you use for your home. There is the address you use for your business. If you have both, it is up to you to choose the one that you want to use for your business. Having both can be advantageous if you’re in a business where you need to be reached by your clients.
