I often read in the newspaper about the many Indian names that feature in their name. The “Mahasagar” that I saw several days ago in a newspaper headline didn’t have the typical name of the state but was instead a combination of two names that are used in the state of Gujarat.
No word on if this was the name of the Mahasagar from the state of Gujarat or a combination of the two names.
I’ve seen multiple reports of people from India using names like “mahasgarh” or “hindi name”. For example, in one of the reports, a man in Kolkata was seen with a mohalla named “mahasgarh” and another man with a mohalla named “hindi name”. This combination of two names is also used in the state of Gujarat.
I am not aware of any people in India using either of these names as a combination of two. In fact, the only place in India where people with these names are seen is in the city of Ahmedabad, which is the state capital.
In other words, the trend of people in India using two names to describe themselves is quite common, and it’s not as unusual in India as it is in the United States and the UK. However, it’s still really weird and it’s a whole lot of fun to see. I wonder what the trend is like in Asia.
In the UK, I find the name “all mahasagar” more likely to be used to describe someone who’s not a member of the “Hindus’ caste,” which is, well, a caste. In India too, you may have seen “all mahasagar” used to refer to a person of mixed Indian and Hindu origin. Here this name is much more specific.
In India, the name most likely points to one of the four major castes of Hindus, so it is quite specific. In the UK, the caste name most likely refers to a higher-caste, white-skinned man. It is still weird though.
It’s also possible that all mahasagar is an Indian name and the actual caste is used for a different caste. The caste name most likely refers to a person of mixed Indian and Hindu ancestry. This is the “lowest” of the four known castes of Hindus.
So what we have here is a name, a caste name, and a “mixed Indian and Hindu ancestry” person.
It seems like we are in the middle of a new religion or caste name. The Hindu caste name is quite a specific thing because there are several possible ways in which the name could be spelled. The word mahasagar is also spelled mahasagar, but its meaning is the same. We are on the verge of learning more about Hinduism.
