How do you pronounce “Zandalari”? What does it mean?
Who are they? For those who don’t know, the Zandalari are a race of trolls that exist in World of Warcraft. In 2022, Blizzard Entertainment will release an expansion for WoW called “Battle for Azeroth.” There is much speculation about what this might entail but one thing we can be sure of is that it will change the game and the world as we know it. This blog post discusses 13 predictions on how these changes could affect Zandalari names in 2022!
With this new expansion, there are a few things that I think will change. Most noticeably to the Zandalari name is how they pronounce it. Within WoW, players have only ever been able to say “Zandalar” but with Battle for Azeroth and its introduction of the Eastern Kingdoms where people speak in an English accent, saying “Zand-uh-larri” would make more sense. This could also affect what you call someone who’s from Zandalar so rather than being called a Zanda or Wonkong like they’re one word (because nobody can pronounce their names), instead you might be referred to as just either an “Eastern Kingdom player” or even just by your class/job title such as “Hunter” or “Warrior”.
Another prediction I have is that the way we refer to players who are from Zandalar will change as well.
It’s been said by one of Blizzards developers, Lylirra, that most people don’t know what a Zanda is so they always ask if it’s some kind of animal and not a person (which she goes on to say could be because no one can pronounce their name). So this might also lead to more people referring them as Eastern Kingdom player than just an Azerothian when talking about anyone in general.
The final prediction I have for Battle for Azeroth would be how many names there might be! With all these new quests involving Western Zandalar, it’s likely that there will be more Zandalari players coming out of the woodwork in Battle for Azeroth. But not only that, with all these new quests involving Western Zandalar we’re also going to get a lot more names to go along with them! I think now is an excellent time for Blizzards devs and writers alike to start brainstorming because this expansion has opened up so many possibilities when it comes to naming your own character or even just by your class/job title such as “Hunter” or “Warrior”.
It looks like there are going to be about 13 predictions made before 2020 but if you want me do make any other ones later on let me know!
Goodbye
This year, we’re predicting that Zandalari names will be influenced by the following trends: Millenials and GenZs are an unprecedentedly large proportion of the population. In fact, it’s estimated they’ll make up more than half our workforce in 2020. And what do millenials want? They care about personal connections with brands. It’s always been important for them to know who owns a company and how you can connect with people there before buying from them – or even working there! Brands that have good social media presences win over millennials time and again because they feel like their voices are heard when they follow a brand on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. The result is naming patterns where parents choose to name their kids after the company they work for, or not at all.
Generation Z is also an unprecedentedly large proportion of the population and will soon be in charge of our society – so it’s worth listening to what they want. GenZs are tech savvy – more than any other generation before them. This means that as digital natives, one way that brands can connect with GenZs on a personal level is by making themselves known through social media and creative influencers on YouTube who go viral among this demographic across the world (i.e., Logan Paul). Brands like Nike have started sponsoring these video bloggers because they know how many people watch their videos every day! The result? A naming trend where parents choose names
Prediction 13: Zandalari Names Will Increase in Length
A popular trend for parents is to give their children longer names. In 2020, the average name length was seven letters. The next year it increased by two letters and continued to increase steadily each following year until 2022 when the average name length is 16 letters! This means that on average a child born today will have an 18 letter name by age 2045. Bullet Point Two: Name lengths have increased in the last decade, but they are still short and sweet.
Bullet Point Three: If you’re expecting or have a newborn child, think about what their name will be. Longer names may catch on sooner than we realize!
