One of the definitions of “self-awareness” is to “know oneself.” This is the ultimate goal of self-knowledge. I’ve written about it before and it’s such a great concept. Not to mention knowing ourselves well makes our lives so much easier, easier to plan together, easier to navigate, easier to plan for the future. Knowing ourselves well also makes our relationships and relationships with others better and stronger.
Self-awareness is not just knowing ourselves, it’s knowing ourselves well. But knowing ourselves well can be hard to do. When we are not well-aware, we tend to act just according to our instincts. This is how we often end up in situations that we would rather not be in and of which we are not particularly proud.
People often say to me that they feel their life is incomplete. They are not living the life they want, but they’re not sure what they really want. They have tried many different things; they have tried many different jobs and have a long list of reasons why they have failed. It is this last part which is the most difficult to overcome because the first two are actually the easiest.
This is a common response to the question, “What do you want to do with your life?” And it is a hard question because it is also what you are supposed to say. A person has to really want something in order to answer it.
So what do I want to do with my life? Well, a lot of people don’t answer the question very well.
I think this is the hardest response to an interview question. Just as they said, what do you want to do with the rest of your life, you must be thinking of something else. And so you get to the point where it is simply impossible to explain what you want to do. Even though you might think it is, you are asking what you have actually decided to do.
So how do we know we want to do something? I think the most important thing is to always remember our own desires. What is most important to you? What is most important to your friends, your family, your career, or your hobbies? There are a lot of things you dont mind doing or things you dont think you can do. It’s easy to get stuck on the idea that we have to do something that is so important to us that we can’t imagine anything else.
We all have our own lists of things that are important to us, but we also have a very long list of things we dont want to do. Our list of things that are important to us is pretty long. Our list of things that we dont want to do is a little shorter but still quite long. We all have a list of things that we wish our friends and family would stop doing and things that we would love to do, but we also wish we could stop doing them.
And if you dont know what to do with that, you have very little options. So, for instance, the list of things that we dont want to do may include things such as: eating in public (or in a restaurant, for that matter), doing something we really shouldn’t be doing, or doing something we would like to try. But even though our list of things we dont want to do may be long, it is also extremely short.
One of the things that can get in the way of our doing what we want to do is our attitude.
